Day 1: Kampala – Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – Aruu Falls – Gulu

Your adventure begins early as you depart Kampala, heading north along the Gulu highway. The first stop is Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only place in Uganda where you can track wild rhinos on foot. Accompanied by experienced rangers, you’ll observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat and learn about conservation efforts to restore Uganda’s rhino population.

After the trek, proceed to Gulu for lunch, then head out to Aruu Falls, a hidden gem surrounded by lush greenery and dramatic rock formations. Take a nature walk, capture scenic views, and listen to the sound of cascading waters. Later, check into your Gulu hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Fort Patiko Visit & Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park

After breakfast, visit the historic Fort Patiko, built by Sir Samuel Baker during the 19th-century anti-slavery campaign. The fort’s ruins and viewpoints tell powerful stories of Uganda’s past.

Continue north toward Kidepo Valley National Park, arriving in time for lunch en route. In the late afternoon, embark on your first game drive through the Narus Valley, where you’ll spot herds of buffalo, giraffes, elephants, and possibly leopards against the backdrop of Kidepo’s rugged mountains. Dinner and overnight at your lodge inside or near the park.

Day 3: Game Drive & Karamojong Cultural Visit

Rise early for a sunrise game drive across Kidepo’s golden plains. This remote park offers some of Uganda’s most exclusive wildlife viewing — including lions resting on rocky outcrops, herds of elephants and buffalo grazing, and the rare ostrich, found only here in Uganda.

Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation before heading out for a Karamojong cultural visit. Engage with the community, learn about their nomadic lifestyle, traditional dances, and deep connection to cattle — a symbol of wealth and pride. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

After breakfast, check out and drive southwest toward Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and oldest protected area. Enjoy scenic countryside views and stop for lunch along the way.

Arrive in Murchison by afternoon, and after settling in at your lodge, set out for an evening game drive. The park’s wildlife thrives in the golden sunset — expect sightings of lions, elephants, giraffes, antelopes, and birds of prey. Return for dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 5: Morning Game Drive & Boat Cruise to the Bottom of the Falls

Start your day with a morning game drive on the northern bank of the Nile, where you’ll have a chance to see the Big Five (minus rhinos, already seen at Ziwa), plus an abundance of other wildlife.

After lunch, embark on a boat cruise along the Nile to the base of Murchison Falls. Watch as hippos grunt lazily in the water, crocodiles bask on the riverbanks, and elephants come to drink. The sight of the Nile squeezing through a 7-meter gorge before plunging 45 meters below is awe-inspiring. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Community Walk & Visit to the Top of the Falls

After breakfast, join a community walk around the Alur tribe’s Mobuku village, where you’ll interact with locals, learn about traditional crafts, farming practices, and enjoy cultural performances.

In the afternoon, visit the Top of the Falls — where the Nile’s power is on full display. Feel the ground tremble as millions of liters of water crash through the narrow gorge, sending up a misty spray and forming rainbows in the sunlight. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Return to Kampala

Enjoy breakfast and check out for your return journey to Kampala. Stop for lunch at Kabalega Restaurant along the way before continuing to the city. Arrival is expected in the evening, marking the end of your 7 Days Ugandan Big Five Safari — a journey filled with breathtaking landscapes, fascinating culture, and unforgettable wildlife encounters.
